• software localization

  Localization means translation and adaptation of interface elements.

  For software localization we use specialized software tools, such as Passolo, which allow to translate menues and messages in software resources and directly in compiled programs, as well as to test the correctness of localization. For the translation of audiovisual materials (mainly films), we also use a specialized software tool Swift, which gives a wide range of additional possibilities in the process of localization, in particular providing the possibility of captions in the given periods of time, their formatting on the screen, etc.

  The process of localization accomplishes a big number of tasks:

  • translation of user interface, including images, voice announcements and documentation;
  • guarantee of system work with the units and standards used in the region;
  • modification of the code fragments that handle region-specified data formats (date, time, phone numbers etc.);
  • guarantee of the correctness of lexicographic sorting of lines in accordance with the target language rules;
  • setup of printing on the standard paper size for the given region;
  • checking of the relevance and permissibility of the used symbols, images, colour combinations, musical fragments etc. in the culture of the target audience.

• software internationalization

  There is an important difference between internationalization and localization. Internationalization is adaptation of the product for potential use practically anywhere, while localization is an addition of special functions for the use in a definite region.

  Parameters which are important both for internationalization and localization include:

  • Language
  • Text
  • Alphabets; text direction - from left to right, from right to left; numbering system. In the majority of modern systems Unicode is used for working with texts (but it is rather a spread practice than a rule).
  • Graphic text presentation (printed materials, pictures with the text)
  • Audiotext
  • Captioning data in video streams
  • Date and time format, including different calendars
  • Time zone
  • Currency
  • Images and colours
  • Titles and headlines
  • Phone numbers, regional and international postal addresses and postal codes
  • Formats of numbers, set by national department (such as Tax Identification number and All-State Nomenclature of Business and Organizations)
  • Units of measure and weight
  • Format of electronic documents

• software Russification

  Russification means adaptation of foreign software to work with the Russian language. For this purposes we use the following Russian localization programs:

  • CyrWin
  • ParaWin
  • TopKey allows working with English, Russian, German, Scandinavian and Finnish languages, Lexicographic publishing development ETS and Polyglossum, also possible for usage in electronic vocabulary Polyglossum
  • KeyRus

  The adaptation of a software product for its realization in a foreign market may require localization of appearance and design elements of the storage device, packing or wrapping of the product.
